WEICHENSTELLUNG (Setting the Course)

The project WEICHENSTELLUNG supports primary school children in their transition phase to secondary school. For many children the change from primary to secondary school is their first big hurdle they have to overcome in their lives. Not all children have the chance to be supported according to their talents. There are children who are actually apt to attend a grammar school, but cannot be supported by their environment. This is where this project comes in. Initiated by the ZEIT-Foundation Ebelin und Gerd Bucerius, the project is realised in North Rhine-Westphalia by the Centre for Teacher Education since 2016. Student teachers accompany the children over a period of three years, in each case from the beginning of the fourth grade to the end of the sixth school year. They support them by working in small learning groups and undertaking cultural activities with them once a month. The Centre for Teacher Education prepares students specifically for their role as mentors in seminars.
